Skip Burroughs' vision is captured in the inner essence and magnitude of her photography. A native New Yorker, Burroughs has a B.S. in Health and Physical Education and an M.A. in Anthropology from New York University. Burroughs holds a second-degree black belt in shotokan karate. As a retired Associate Professor from the Health, Physical Education and Dance Department of Queensborough Community College, the City University of New York, in Bayside, New York, she has had time to pursue her twin passions of karate and photography. Over the past years, however, her photography has taken center stage with her work appearing in numerous solo, duo and group exhibitions. Her solo exhibits have included "Women in Jazz", "The Maturing Woman", "Images of Life", and "Portrait of a Mayor", a compilation of photographs featuring former Mayor David N. Dinkins. Burroughs has participated in more than a dozen group shows, including "Women Focus on Women", "Portraiture", "Homes of the Homeless", Atlantic Gallery's Annual Small Works Invitational, The Gracie Square Outdoor Art Exhibit and the Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit where she won first prize for her photograph of an African American female evangelist, entitled, "Sister Mendes." Burroughs has also been the personal photographer for former Manhattan Borough President, Ruth Messenger. Her photographs have been seen in political pamphlets, The New York Beacon, The downtown Express, cover photo for Science at Home magazine, On The Issues magazine, as well as Valentine New York magazine.
